Average wage rises

In real terms, the average wage rose by 1.5% in January-April.

The average wage in April, at current prices, was NIS 9,145 monthly, and there were 3.143 million salaried jobs, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. Trend figures indicate stability in the number of jobs since the beginning of the year.

The trend figures also show a rise of 2-3% in the average wage in the past six months. The average wage at fixed prices, that is, after taking inflation into account, also rose, by an annualized 1.6% in the period January-April, after a rise of 1.8% in the period November 2012 to January 2013.

Construction workers experienced the greatest real fall in wages in January-April: 7.5%, following a 5.1% fall in November-January. This happened despite the fact that the number of jobs in this industry rose by 1.7%, much more than the average.
