Apple buying Israel's Matcha.tv for $10m - report

Matcha.tv has developed an app that provides information about everything available for viewing on television, streaming video services, and digital video stores.

"VentureBeat" reports that Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) has acquired Matcha.tv, run by CEO Guy Piekarz. Matcha.tv developed an app that provided information about everything available for viewing on cable and satellite television, streaming video services, and digital video stores. The app has not been available in the past few months.

"VentureBeat" estimates the acquisition price at $1-1.5 million, but adds that the final amount could have been much higher, if the app was as popular as it used to be and was routinely ranked among the top 15 entertainment apps listed in Apple’s App Store.

Other market sources say that the acquisition price was much higher, at more than $10 million.

Apple told "VentureBeat", "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans." Piekarz declined to comment.
