Suny exec's slip confirms Samsung smart watch

A manager blurted out at an employees' event that the smart watch would go on sale in Israel in September.

Samsung has not yet officially launched its smart watch, but Samsung importer Suny Electronics Ltd. (TASE: SUNY) confirmed it at an employees' event today. A manager blurted out to employees that sales of the smart watch would begin in Israel in September. The smart watch's unofficial name is Galaxy Gear.

There has been no official announcement about the existence of the smart watch, but sources believe that Samsung will unveil the watch at its annual press conference at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin on September 6-11.

The smart watch will reportedly have a dual-core processor, a camera with a 2 megapixel sensor, loudspeakers, and a movement sensor that will cause the watch to display the time when the wearer waves his wrist towards his face. The Galaxy Gear will apparently not operate independently, but will only work when connected wirelessly to a Samsung smartphone.

Samsung was unavailable for comment.
