Tel Aviv hotels full for Watec Conference

Scores of delegations from around the world are due to arrive in Tel Aviv for the Watec Water Technology and Environment Control Conference.

Scores of delegations from around the world are due to arrive in Tel Aviv for the Watec Israel 2013 Water Technology and Environment Control Conference on October 22-24. 200 Israeli companies will display sewage treatment, desalination, and other innovative water technologies.

Israel's standing as a global spearhead of water technologies is reflected in the high occupancy rate at hotels in greater Tel Aviv during the conference: Tel Aviv Hotels Association CEO Eli Ziv says that hotels are nearly full, in part from more than 3,000 foreign guests.

Ziv says that the biennual Watec conferences attract thousands of foreign participants. "We have implored other companies not to organize conferences and exhibitions during October," he said. Tel Aviv's hotels have 7,000 rooms, and the metropolitan area has 9,000 rooms. He said today that, due to the high occupancy rate, many guests during the next two weeks, will have to stay in Herzliya, Ramat Gan, and Bat Yam, where there is still a chance of finding a room.

The Ministry of the Economy and the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute are organizing the Watech Conference. Ministry of the Economy Investment Promotion Center director Oded Distel says, "We have a real problem in finding rooms for the economic and commercial attaches invited to the conference from all over the world. We'll apparently have to house them in Bat Yam and Netanya."

The Ministry of the Economy says that the water market is growing, with tens of billions of dollars in potential deals. "The purchasing power that will attend our upcoming conference is many billions of dollars," says Distel.
