12,000 apartments approved for Sde Dov airport

Hotel, commercial and business space, and a 125 acre park have also been approved for after the Tel Aviv airport is vacated.

The National Planning and Building Commission has rejected the petitions against the Tel Aviv Regional Planning and Building Commission's approval, in August 2012, of the plan for massive residential construction at Sde Dov Airport. The National Planning Commission found a real need for the plan, and notwithstanding the pending evacuation of Sde Dov, approval of the plan should not wait for the evacuation. It also found that the evacuation will make it possible to add building rights to the lots south of the airport to equalize the rights to those of the landowners in the area of the current plan.

The plan, TA/3700, is for the construction of a new residential neighborhood on the 1,900-dunam (475-acre) site of Sde Dov Airport up to Tel Aviv's border with Herzliya to the north. The plan calls for the construction of 12,000 apartments, 50,000 square meters of hotel space, 150,000 square meters of business space, 70,000 square meters of commercial space, and a 500-dunam (125-acre) park.
