Lilach Asher-Topilsky appointed Discount Bank CEO

Asher-Topilsky's appointment means that three of Israel's five big banks are now run by women.

Lilach Asher-Topilsky was appointed CEO of Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) today, succeeding Reuven Spiegel, who will step down in March 2014. Her appointment means that three of Israel's five big banks are now run by women: Rakefet Russak-Aminoach at Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) and Smadar Zadik-Bino at First International Bank of Israel (TASE: FTIN).

Discount Bank's board of directors accepted the recommendation of the search committee, headed by bank chairman Yossi Bachar. The search committee was established when Spiegel announced that he would leave the bank two months ago. "Lilach brings a wealth of experience and track record in management," said Bachar. "I believe that Lilach will quickly fit in with Discount Bank and lead it with determination and success to new heights."

Asher-Topilsky (43), has held a range of positions at Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) since 1998. Since 2009, she has served as deputy CEO and head of retail banking, where she is responsible for the bank's 280 branches and she led major business initiatives. She has a BA in Economics from Tel Aviv University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago.
