Aquarius Spectrum, a graduate of the Hutchison-Kinrot technology incubator, part of the global Hutchison Whampoa group, has signed a deal worth NIS 6 million with Hagihon, the Jerusalem area water and wastewater corporation, for the first commercial installation of systems for detecting leaks in the municipal water supply system. The technology will be presented for the first time to investors and international commercial companies at the WATEC 2013 exhibition, part of the WATEC conference opening on October 22 in Tel Aviv.
Under the agreement, over the next eight years, Aquarius Spectrum will supply thousands of acoustic sensors and services for locating hidden cracks, based on a sophisticated algorithm. The systems will be installed on hundreds of kilometers of Hagihon's municipal water network as an additional means of reducing water loss. The project is supported by a grant from the Israeli government, in the framework of its support for infrastructure projects involving Israeli technology.
The installation of Aquarius Spectrum's technology will make Jerusalem one of the first large cities in the world to install systems for locating leaks throught the city, which will lead to a substantial saving of precious resources, for the benefit of the water corporation's customers. The signing of the agreement is a further step in the consolidation of Hagihon's status as the leading water corporation in Israel for implementing innovative technologies as part of its water network management and control system.
Following this commercial installation, the company expects to sell the technology to thousands of municipal water corporations around the world, bringing significant benefits to their customers.
The Ministry of National Infrastructures, Energy and Water Resources is currently setting up a smart cities administration, which will promote measures for turning Israel's cities into smart cities, with an emphasis on water and power infrastructures.
