The IDF Spokesman's Office says that the Skylark tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which crashed in Gaza today, suffered from a malfunction. The IDF denies Hamas's claim to have shot down the UAV.
The IDF Spokesman's Office added that the cause of the malfunction was under investigation.
Visiting IDF soldiers wounded in yesterday's incident along the Gaza border, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Ganz said that threats from Gaza were still extant. "We will prepare everything necessary, even if means dealing with a broader conflict, which is not advisable for Gaza's residents."
In May, a Skylark UAV crashed shortly after takeoff on an intelligence gathering mission. The IDF's preliminary investigation found the cause of the crash to be a malfunction. IDF troops recovered the crashed Skylark in open ground near the Gaza border.
