Storms intensify as snow falls in Jerusalem

In the 24 hours before 7 am Thursday morning, a massive 103 mm of rain fell in Jerusalem. Road 1 to Jerusalem reopened.

The heavy rains and storms battering Israel reached their peak this morning as temperatures dipped. Heavy rain fell throughout the country the entire night. While it snowed heavily on Mount Hermon yesterday the rain only turned to snow in Jerusalem, Gush Etzion and the Galilee peaks after dawn this morning. The Jerusalem Municipality only announced that schools would be closed at the last minute. After 10 am Road 1 to Jerusalem was closed at Latrun for several hours before being reopened.

In the 24 hours before 7 am Thursday morning a massive 103 mm of rain fell in Jerusalem, 35 mm fell in Tel Aviv, 50 mm fell in Haifa but only 15 mm fell in the region of the Kinneret.

The stormy weather is expected to continue through Friday with the possibility of snow spreading to the Negev heights.
