Lapid pledges 2,500 homes for rent by March

Finance Minister Yair Lapid told the Israel Builders Association that tenders will be issued to build the apartments in high-demand areas.

Minister of Finance Yair Lapid has told the Israel Builders Association that in the coming days he will market new tenders for homes for rent in high demand areas. He said that this will include, "215 apartments in Herzliya and Glil Yam, and 246 apartments in Ramat Hasharon."

He added, "In the first quarter of 2014 we will publish tenders for about 800 housing units in Jerusalem and then 1,200 housing units in Ramat Gan."

Lapid declined to set out where exactly the lots for the proposed rental accommodation are located in the aforementioned cities. However, sources informed "Globes" that the Ramat Hasharon lot is on the Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI) site, the Jerusalem apartments will be built in Malkha and the Ramat Gan apartments in part of the IDF Tel Hashomer base. This even though the IMI and Tel Hashomer sites have yet to be vacated and are still not available for marketing.
