Discount Bank employees to strike all branches Tuesday

Employees want an automatic annual salary rise of 5% while the bank wants to pay a significantly lower increase.

If there is no last minute change all 125 Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) branches will be closed on Tuesday as employees call a one-day strike. Discount Bank works committee chairman Ricky Bechar told "Globes", "To my regret the management does not know how to conduct talks. It was possible to have finished this dispute two days ago."

After Tuesday's one-day strike, Discount Bank employees will impose the work sanctions that they began several weeks ago including not collecting mail, which disrupts the ability to deposit checks in the bank. Following these sanctions, the management has in the past deducted 20% of workers' salaries. Bechar says it is possible there will be future one-day strikes.

The labor dispute at Discount Bank began 8 months ago when the salary agreement was being worked out but this is the first time during the dispute that a strike has been called. The workers want an automatic annual salary increase of 5% while the bank wants to pay a significantly lower increase.
