Poland considering Israeli technology for eastern border fence

In Warsaw, Minister of Defense Shaul Mofaz signed an MOU for bilateral industrial cooperation.

Minister of Defense Shaul Mofaz yesterday proposed to Poland's Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Ryszard Kalisz that it use the model of Israel's separation fence for Poland's eastern border.

When Poland joined the EU in May, it undertook to protect its eastern border. Measures include 14 border transit points, over 30 control centers, many scores of manned observation towers for a night observation system, and scores of kilometers of fences with sensors linked to sophisticated control centers.

Mofaz, who is visiting Poland, offered Kalisz Israeli technology used in Israel's separation fence. They agreed that Poland would send a delegation of experts to study sophisticated Israeli technologies, with the intention of applying them in Poland's border fence project.

Mofaz also met Poland's Minister of Economy and Labor Jerzy Hausner, and signed an MOU for bilateral industrial cooperation.
