70% of Israeli families own their homes

18% of Israeli households own a DVD, 31% have Internet access, 65% have a VCR, 55% a computer, and 81% have at least one cellular telephone, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today to mark International Family Day.

57% of Israeli households own at least one car, and 13% own two or more. 99.8% own a refrigerator, 91.3% a color television, 89% have at least one telephone line, and 75% a microwave oven.

Israel has over 1.5 million families. 51%, 804,000 families, have children up to the age of 17. 6.3%, 100,000 families, are single-parent families. The number of single-parent families has grown 1.7 times faster in the past six years than the total number of families.

72% of households have at least one breadwinner. 68% of single-parent families have at least one breadwinner. Households with children spend more on food, clothing and footwear, education, culture and entertainment, as a proportion of total expenditure, than families without children. The proportion of computer, Internet, DVD, and cellular telephone ownership among families with children is greater than for families without children.

70% of Israeli households own their homes, 25% rent, and 5% live in homes with key money or for free. Average expenditure on household maintenance is NIS 1,100 a month, of which 32.3% is for electricity, gas, and heating fuel. Local or municipal taxes account for 22.6% of expenditure on household maintenance.
