"Wendy's" Burger Chain Seeks Franchisee to Renew Activity in Israel

The chain operates more than 4500 restaurants in the US and 33 other countries and has a sales turnover of $1.8 billion in 1995.

The "Wendy's" hamburger chain is interested in renewing operations in Israel. "Wendy's" has returned in the past two years to being one of the leading fast food chains in the world in its field.

"Wendy's" sales turnover in 195 reached $1.8 billion, with a $110 million profit. The fast food chain operates more than 4500 restaurants either owned or franchised in the US and 33 other countries.

"Wendy's" has already tried its luck in Israel. It entered activities in Israel nine years ago through the Blue Square supermarket chain, then managed by Benny Gaon. The chain was operated by the franchise method and reached six branches.

Concerns in the industry say that the chain failed due to managerial problems and a poor marketing plan. In addition, Israeli's simply didn't like the product. The same concerns note "Wendy's" rise in the world, and the successful penetration of "McDonald's" and "Burger King" into the Israeli market, which encouraged "Wendy's" to try to renew operations in Israel.
