Following an expanded Israel - Canada air transport agreement, Air Transat is launching Tel Aviv - Toronto flights and Air Canada and Air Transat are expanding their Tel Aviv - Montreal service.

Canadian carriers Air Canada and Air Transat have welcomed the expanded air transport agreement between Israel and Canada and announced an increased number of flights between Israel and Canada in the summer.

Last week Israel's Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz and his Canadian counterpart Marc Garneau signed a new air transport agreement expanding the number of weekly return flights between Israel and Canada from 12 to 19.

Air Canada said that it is increasing the number of weekly flights between Tel Aviv and Montreal this summer, a service inaugurated last summer, from two to three weekly flights. Similarly, Air Transat, which launched Tel Aviv - Montreal flights last summer, is increasing the frequency of its weekly flights from two to three and introducing a weekly Tel Aviv - Toronto flight.

Air Canada president passenger airlines Benjamin Smith said, "Air Canada welcomes the expansion of the Canada-Israel air transport agreement as it will allow us to enhance our network and further advance our successful international expansion strategy. We look forward to increasing our services to Tel Aviv, which currently comprise of daily non-stop service from Toronto and seasonal non-stop flights from Montreal. Air Canada is the only airline to offer fully-lie flat seats in International Business Class on flights between the two countries."

Air Transat president and CEO Jean-Marc Eustache said, “We congratulate the federal government for reaching an expanded air transport capacity arrangement with Israel. This deal will open up new development and growth possibilities for Canadian-based international carriers such as Air Transat."

There has been no word from El Al, which operates three weekly flights between Tel Aviv and Toronto.
