5,000 housing units will be built on the vacated site near Rishon Lezion

The Ministry of Defense today announced that its Engineering and Construction department and Logistics Operations and Properties department had completed the evacuation of IDF training base no. 20 at the Tzrifin military base near Rishon Lezion.

Training base no. 20 was used for years as the base for technological training in the IDF Ordnance Corps. The training was moved last year to the IDF training center complex in the south. Training base no. 20, which covered 370 dunam (92.5 acres), is the largest training base at Tzrifin evacuated so far. The Engineering and Construction Department evacuation work included 175,000 square meters of military buildings, light and heavy concrete construction, steel construction, fences, asphalt areas, concrete surfaces, and sheds.

The Ministry of Defense Logistics Operations and Properties department will hand over the evacuated area to the Israel Land Authority (ILA) under an agreement for the evacuation and transfer of IDF camps from city centers. The evacuated area will be used for the construction of 5,000 housing units in jurisdiction of the Beer Yaakov local council.

Ministry of Defense Engineering and Construction department director Erez Cohen said, "370 dunam of training base no. 20 are joining 427 dunam from the Tzrifin camp that we have already evacuated, and will be used to build thousands of new housing units. We are now looking at the next camp to be evacuated."
