A 4 kilometer section of Road 531 has opened linking the Ra'anana South interchange on Road 4 with the Herzliya East interchange.

The new section of Road 531, which was opened by the Netivei Israel National Transport Infrastructure Co. this morning, is expected to relieve congestion in the Sharon region, and especially Ra'anana.

The new road links Road 4 just south of the Ra'anana Interchange with Jerusalem Boulevard at the western tip of Ra'anana. The road will enable drivers to travel at 110 kilometers per hour and bypass the 15 traffic lights on Ahuza Street, the heavily congested main road through Ra'anana city center, which runs parallel to the north.

In the grand plan of things, Road 531 is a lateral east-west highway linking the Sharon region cities of Kfar Saba, Hod Hasharon, Ra'anana and Herzliya with the country's main north-south highways Road 6, Road 4 and Road 2. The next section of Road 531, due to open at the end of 2017, will continue to the new Ayalon Highway, thus linking Road 20 to Road 6. The road is expected to dramatically reduce travel times and air pollution in the Sharon region's cities.

The new section of road opened this morning is 4 kilometers in length and has two new interchanges and six bridges and cost NIS 4 billion.

A new railway station Ra'anana West - is under construction at the current western end of Road 531 on Jerusalem Boulevard. The station is expected to open towards the end of 2017 as part of the extension of the line from Hod Hasharon and Kfar Saba.
