The boutique hotel, owned by Adi and Irit Strauss, was likely sold because of its high rent, according to market sources.

Three years after opening the boutique Alma Hotel in Tel Aviv to much fanfare, Adi and Irit Strauss, owners of Adi’s Lifestyle, announced the sale of the property. Tourism industry insiders believe the deal was worth NIS 12 million the total amount invested in the hotel’s opening.

The property was purchased by Rothschild’s Friends, whose partners include former footballer Shimon Gershon. The hotel hosted the Alma Lounge restaurant, which was run by chef Jonathan Roshfeld until he parted ways with the owners six months ago.

Industry insiders told “Globes” the high rent hurt the profitability of the venture and was the primary reason behind the sale.

Adi’s Lifestyle said, “The sale of the hotel will not affect the group’s other activities, including its operation of Hebert Samuel in Tel Aviv, the kosher Herbert Samuel in Herzliya, and Tapas in Tel Aviv; as well as the Ritz Carlton hotel in Herzliya, held jointly with the Tidhar Group.”

Meanwhile, Adi’s Lifestyle will expand its beverage and food services to the Herbert Samuel hotel, scheduled to open in Jerusalem at the end of 2015.
