Sudhir Choudhrie allegedly received kickbacks in a ₤1.3 million missile sale to India.
UK Sunday paper "The Observer" reports that a London businessman accepted "tens of millions of pounds in kickbacks from an arms deal between an Israeli company and the Indian government."
"The Observer" adds that the businessman, Sudhir Choudhrie, is an Indian citizen and major donor to the Liberal Democratic Party. The paper notes that party leader Nick Clegg called for a curb of the arms trade and a boycott of sales of arms to Israel earlier this year.
"The Observer" cites a report by Mumbai-based daily DNA, which alleged that Choudhrie was paid part of £80.5 million in illegal business charges in a ₤1.3 billion sale of medium-range surface-to-air missiles by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) to the Indian Ministry of Defense in January.
