Mobile marketing co Amobee wins Spain deal

The Telefonica deal follows similar deals with Vodafone and other mobile operators.

Mobile marketing solutions developer Amobee Media Systems Ltd. has launched its mobile advertising platform for Telefonica SA (NYSE; IBEX:TEF; LSE:TDE) in Spain. Amobee is providing Telefonica with holistic advertising solutions over its mobile Internet inventory channel. The move is part of the companies’ global alliance announced in June 2008.

Amobee did not disclose the size of the deal, but sources inform ''Globes'' that it is worth a few million dollars. The deal with Telefonica follows similar deals with Vodafone plc (NYSE; LSE: VOD) and other mobile operators.

Amobee CEO Zohar Levkovitz and two colleagues founded the company in 2005. The start-up has developed a platform for managing advertising campaigns on cellular networks, enabling customized targeting of ads to subscribers, via video and music clips, mobile Internet, multimedia announcements, games, and SMS.

According to IVC, Amobee has raised $54 million to date from Accel Partners, Sequoia Capital, Globespan Capital Partners, Cisco Ventures LLC, Motorola Ventures, Telefonica, and Vodafone.

Last week, TiEcon 2009 announced that Amobee was one of its TiE50 winners in the wireless category. There were 1,200 candidates for the 50 winners.
