Rafael joins Stryker vehicle armor protection deal

The company is a strategic partner with General Dynamics units on the project.

Rafael Armament Development Authority Ltd. will share in a contract awarded to a General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) unit to protect Stryker military vehicles.

General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada has awarded General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products a contract valued at more than $150 million to qualify and produce reactive armor tile sets for the Stryker family of vehicles. General Dynamics Land Systems is the original equipment manufacturer of the Stryker vehicle.

General Dynamics’ reactive armor system comprises tiles that fasten to the exterior of the Stryker family of vehicles, allowing it to better withstand hits from a variety of anti-armor munitions.

Rafael's ordnance systems division will produce some of the armor in Haifa. Rafael is considered a strategic partner.

General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products vice president and general manager of weapon systems Russ Klein said, “We are proud to work with our General Dynamics teammates to provide potentially life-saving technologies to US servicemen and women.”

Deliveries are expected to begin in March 2010.

General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products designs, develops and produces high-performance weapon and armament systems, defensive armor, countermeasure systems and aerospace composite solutions.
