The first steps toward implementing the Trajtenberg Committee's recommendations for housing for elderly immigrants have been taken with the decision to build 1,341 subsidized rental units in nine cities nationwide, which will be leased for NIS 600-1,000 a month. Immigrants who have been less than ten years in the country will be entitled to rent the apartments.
The Ministry of Immigrant Absorption said that apartments would be built in Tel Aviv and its suburbs of Rishon LeZion, Bat Yam, Kiryat Ono, Kfar Saba, and Rehovot, as well as in Haifa and Carmiel.
Minister of Immigrant Absorption Sofa Landver said, "This is the first step in building 4,000 apartments for immigrants."
Ministry of Immigrant Absorption officials told "Globes that tenders for housing for new immigrants would be published within a year, but that discussions on budgets for the project were still underway. These tenders will use the same format that already exists in some towns.
