Israel-Turkey M60-Ai tank upgrade project inagurated

The tank upgrade production line was set up in the Turkish city of Kayseri.

The Ministry of Defense and Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI) yesterday dedicated the production line for upgrading 170 Turkish Army M60-A1 tanks. IMI is the chief contractor for the tank upgrade program.

The upgrade will include the following features: installing a 120-mm cannon, fire control system, turret control system, modern armor, and new power unit. Under the contract, IMI upgraded one tank prototype, which was delivered to Turkey from Israel after successful testing.

The tank upgrade production line was set up in the Turkish city of Kayseri. Trials of the upgraded tanks will also continue.

In the inaugural speech, Ministry of Defense director general Yaakov Toren noted the uniqueness of the program, and its contribution to defense cooperation between Israel and Turkey. He said the program was a successful feature of the cooperation between the Israeli and Turkish defense industries.
