Minister considers major WiMAX policy change

Minister of Communications Ariel Atias wants to publish the policy before the election in order to take credit for it.

Minister of Communications Ariel Atias is considering major changes on mobile WiMAX policy, which will be published in the coming days. Sources inform "Globes" that of the two main changes being considered, Atias, has already decided to implement the first of these changes - a tender for one frequency bandwidth amounting to 30 megahertz per operator, instead of the two bandwidths planned. The second change is to issue the tender according to the price of transmitting information (per mega) because of the difficulties of fixing a price per minute for conversation with this technology.

The Ministry of Communications is making the most strenuous efforts to complete publication of its WiMAX policy prior to the election so that Atias can take credit for it. The policy has in effect been completed and is undergoing legal amendments and various formulations. Ministry sources say that the aim is to publish the policy this week and the beginning of next week at the latest.
