LiveU airing Tour de France in real time

LiveU is airing the Tour de France in real time for British Eurosport.

Video-over-mobile transmission company LiveU Ltd. is airing the Tour de France in real time for British Eurosport. The company and the broadcaster collaborate on streaming video at other sports events.

LiveU was founded in 2006 by CEO Samuel Wasserman and Avihai Cohen. The company's technology enables broadcast-quality streaming video over mobile networks, mainly W-Fi. The content transmitted via the company's equipment, which can interface with professional photography equipment, is used by television stations worldwide to cover big events such as the Oscar and Grammy awards, Brazil's carnival, the World Cup, US elections coverage, and the Olympic Games.

British Eurosport head of production Jenny King said that LiveU's technology enabled the station to broadcast the Tour de France with less dependence on satellites, which was important for events with little advance notice.
