IAI and Elbit Systems win $200m Turkish UAV contract

The contract is expected to be signed on May 1, during the visit to Israel by Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan.

A Turkish newspaper reports thi smorning that Israel Aircraft Industries and Elbit Systems (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) have won a contract estimated to be worth $200 million to supply unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to the Turkish military.

It emerges from the report, which quotes sources in Turkey's military industries, that the contract is expected to be signed on May 1, during the visit to Israel by Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan's visit comes a year after statements of his caused a cooling in Israel-Turkey relations. In May 2004, Erdogan called Israel a "terrorist state" after an IDF operation in the Gaza Strip.
