Allium reports successful angiography procedures

The WIRON EPD System simplifies carotid angiography procedures.

Allium Medical Ltd. (TASE: ALMD), which is developing micro-invasive medical devices, says it has successfully completed its first three commercial carotid angiography procedures. The procedures used three WIRON EPD Systems of its subsidiary Gardia Medical Ltd. at John Paul II Hospital in Krakow, Poland, led by head of vascular surgery and intervention Prof. Piotr Pieniazek.

The procedures were carried out as part of a plan to establish excellence centers in leading European hospitals that have a high volume of patients and are led by influential, leading specialists.

The medical team praised Gardia’s technology and the system’s ease of use. John Paul II Hospital has one of Poland’s largest leading vascular surgery departments, and specializes in vascular surgery and interventional procedures for treatment of arterial calcifications, including treatment of the carotid artery. To date, more than 2,000 carotid artery catheterization procedures have been carried out at the hospital that included the use of various technologies for preventing emboli.

Prof. Pieniazek and Dr. Lucas Takeli said: “Our first experience with the Gardia WIRION system was very positive. The ability to use any guide wire simplifies the procedure greatly and allows for the most suitable wire among the range of existing possibilities in the catheterization lab to be used. We were happy to discover, after opening the filter, how stable it is, and how well it adhered to the arterial walls. This advantage adds stability to the entire procedure, particularly the stent placement stage.”

The WIRON system is a unique, patent-protected filter system that protects against blood clots and emboli that develop during the catheterization procedure - to open blocked blood vessels using a balloon or a stent. The system has a unique locking mechanism, which allows the surgeon to use any guide wire and to place the filter at the most suitable location on it.

Allium Medical specializes in micro-invasive medical devices and has many technologies and product lines in the field. The company’s strategy is to create value by broadening internal development and by acquiring additional product lines and technologies.
