Elbit Systems to develop soldier-worn computers for US Army

Elbit Systems will work together with Rockwell Collins to develop the prototype.

Defense electronics company Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE:ESLT) wholly-owned subsidiary Elbit Systems of America, LLC, has been selected as part of a team led by Rockwell Collins Inc. (NYSE: COL) for the system integration and prototype phase of the ground soldier ensemble program for the US Army.

Elbit Systems and Rockwell Collins formed “Team Spartan”, which has been chosen to develop the next-generation soldier-worn computer system. The system will provide situational awareness to soldiers during intense operations in a configuration that optimizes size, weight and power and can be customized for different missions.

Elbit Systems will leverage its global soldier systems experience and lessons learned in rugged military computing technologies, including the battle-proven, soldier-worn Dominator computing system, to bring required computing capability to the program. The computing platforms support mission planning, situational awareness, target handling and device connectivity, as well as video and map displays.

Elbit Systems of America president and CEO Raanan Horowitz said, “Team Spartan represents an excellent combination of companies, skills and combat systems experiences. Together with Rockwell Collins and Boeing we will provide our country’s front line men and women superior situational awareness and information superiority in a way that ensures they can execute their missions effectively and come back safely.”

Elbit's share closed at $51.90 on Nasdaq yesterday, giving a market cap of $2.19 billion. The share was up 0.6% by mid-afternoon today on the TASE at NIS 217.30.
