Game maker Oberon Media buys PixelPlay

Pixelplay is a global provider of brand-name games and entertainment for cross-platform play.

Oberon Media Inc. has acquired PixelPlay Inc. of the US. This is the company’s fourth acquisition in two years, and its second in two months.

In May, Oberon Media acquired i-Play for $100 million. The company declined to disclose how much it is paying for Pixelplay, but sources inform ''Globes'' that the figure is several tens of millions of dollars. Pixelplay is a global provider of brand-name games and entertainment for cross-platform play on interactive television, broadband, iPTV and mobile devices.

Oberon Media CEO Tomer Ben-Kiki, chairman Tal Kerret, and head of business development Ofer Leidner founded the company four years ago. The company has 300 employees, of whom 70 are at its development center in Ramat Hahayal in Tel Aviv. The company has raised an undisclosed amount from Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Oak Investment Partners, Lehman Brothers Venture Capital, Morgan Stanley Private Equity, former e-Bay chairman Jeff Skoll through Capricorn Management, and Zohar Gilon.

Oberon Media develops casual games, which can be bought and downloaded from the internet for cellular telephones, and home entertainment systems.
