Telmap expands with Vodafone

In Israel, the company provides navigation services for Cellcom, Pele-Phone, and MIRS.

Mobile mapping and navigation solutions provider Telmap Ltd. and Vodafone Group plc (NYSE; LSE: VOD) have jointly launched the Vodafone Sat Nav - an operator branded mobile navigation solution for the UK consumer market. The companies declined to disclose the size of the deal, but it is estimated at a few million dollars.

Vodafone Sat Nav provides users with mobile navigation, both in cars and on foot. The system uses up-to-date 3D maps and directions, provides instant access to live traffic alerts and millions of points-of-interest such as hotels, restaurants, shopping and attractions.

The Vodafone Sat Nav, powered by Telmap uses Nokia GPS-embedded handsets and the Blackberry.

Telmap CEO Oren Nissim said, “This consumer launch further strengthens the partnership between Telmap and Vodafone UK and allows us to build on the success we have achieved with Vodafone Sat Nav in the enterprise market. As the first operator-branded mobile navigation service for UK consumers, this launch marks a significant milestone for both Telmap and the industry in bringing a fully featured Sat Nav experience to the mass-market mobile phone.”

In Israel, the company provides navigation services for Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL), Pele-Phone Communications Ltd., and MIRS Communications Ltd.

Nissim founded the company in 2000, and it has raised $20 million in two financing rounds to date. The company has 80 employees.
