Australian libraries add Ex Libris software

AIATSIS library director Rod Stroud: The expectations of our user base do not always go hand in hand with our existing IT infrastructure, so the Primo Direct solution meets our needs.

Four Australian libraries have recently added Ex Libris software at their institutions. The values of the deals were not released.

Ex Libris Australia reported that the libraries chose the firm's Primo solution. The four libraries are the State Library of Victoria (SLV), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Curtin University of Technology, and the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).

The State Library of Victoria added the Primo solution to other Ex Libris software already running. SLV CTO Ian Patterson said, “We are delighted to have found a complete solution for our library. Primo can be easily configured and maintained by non-IT staff, and most important, it will readily deal with the vast quantities of our bibliographic data and diverse collections.”

AIATSIS library director Rod Stroud added, “the expectations of our user base do not always go hand in hand with our existing IT infrastructure, so the Primo Direct solution meets our needs perfectly. Primo Direct, offering the powerful discovery capabilities of Primo as a service, in an environment that is hosted and maintained by Ex Libris, can be implemented quickly. As a result, our users will be able to benefit from the Primo experience as soon as possible.”

Jerusalem-based Ex Libris is a leading provider of automation solutions for academic libraries. The company was bought in early August by US private equity firm Leeds Equity Partners for between $150-200 million.
