BigBand gets China cable deal

Jiangsu Cable has 15 million subscribers in ten cities in Jiagsu Province.

BigBand Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:BBND) is deploying its Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR) with eastern Chinese operator Jiangsu Cable Co. Ltd.

The company did not disclose the size of the deal.

Jiangsu Cable will use BigBand's solution to process and deliver digital television services, including high definition and interactive television to 15 million subscribers in ten cities in Jiagsu Province.

Despite this latest contract, BigBand's share continued to fall, to close at $2.84 yesterday, giving a market cap of $182 million. The share has fallen 45% since the beginning of the year, and has lost 78% of its value since its IPO 18 months ago.

BigBand COO David Heard said, "Jiangsu Cable has embarked on one of the most ambitious rollouts of digital television in the world, and we're delighted it has selected the BigBand BMR to manage and transport these services."
