Israeli techies dream of Google

Intel, the second most popular employer, is the biggest employer in the high-tech sector.

Google Israel Ltd. is the most popular high-tech employer according to a survey by jobseeker website Alljobs for "Globes" magazine "Leaders". 36% of high-tech employees rated Google as the most attractive employer. The company is apparently in a league of its own and no other high-tech company seems able to challenge its leadership.

Since high-tech salaries are assumed to be more or less the same among top high-tech companies, competition is for other factors at the workplace. Employees are attracted by the work experience offered by Google Israel, including its unique interior design, pool tables and Segways that ease movement between offices.

This assumption is reinforced by the second part of the survey, in which Google Israel receives the highest score as a workplace that is fun to work in. Google's public relations also helps the company's image. Since Google Inc. (NYSE: GOOG) has only just over 100 employees at its Israeli R&D centers, it has created an image of a company that is very selective in its hiring and as an industry elite.

International corporations take the next three spots in the employee rankings. Intel Israel Ltd. is in second place, with 12%, well behind Google. Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) is Israel's largest high-tech employer, with more than 7,000 people.

The local units of Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) is in third place and IBM Inc. (NYSE: IBM) is in fourth place. Both companies have been in Israel for a long time and both have boosted their local activity in the past year. Microsoft acquired three start-ups - Kidaro, Yadata, and Zoomix. IBM has also made a number of acquisitions, beginning with XIV for $300 million early this year.

Amdocs Ltd. (NYSE: DOX) is ranked in fifth place, right behind IBM Israel, making it the top rated Israeli high-tech company in the employee survey.
