US Embassy in India adopts Ex Libris software

The embassy was one of several institutions that have acquired a new Voyager program.

The US embassy in India, with 4 libraries across the country, is one of several institutions that have recently added Ex Libris's Voyager software.

Some of the other customers include New York Medical College, Judson College in Alabama, and Unitec New Zealand.

The US Embassy in India, which has four libraries located in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and New Delhi, replaced its former ILS with Voyager to achieve a more robust platform for cataloging activities

Voyager software supports public access cataloging control and authority as well as acquisitions, serials, circulation and course reserves. The out-of-the-box product provides reporting and system administration. The program interoperates with existing library systems and new technologies.

Voyager 7.0 was released in June 2008, and focuses on ease of use and increased functionality for library staff and users. It includes more flexibility for library staff in customizing search and navigation functions to the needs of their institution.

“Voyager has significantly streamlined many of our library processes, such as updating and editing serials and acquisitions data, helping us to become more efficient,” said Judson College vice president and academic dean Dr. Sara B. Kiser.

“We were impressed by the ongoing commitment to upgrade and enhance Voyager,” remarked Unitec New Zealand library director Peter Hughes.

Judson College was founded in 1838 by Baptists in Marion, Alabama. It was named for Ann Hasseltine Judson, America's first female foreign missionary, and remains affiliated with the Alabama Baptist Convention.

Unitec is New Zealand's largest institute of technology with over 20,000 students participating in programs from undergraduate certificate to doctorate. The Unitec Library comprises six facilities in Auckland: three libraries, two learning commons and a student computing centre.

Jerusalem-based Ex Libris is a leading provider of automation solutions for academic, national, and research libraries.
