Stanley Fischer among top ten central bank heads

The Bank of Israel governor received an "A" from "Global Finance" magazine.

Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Stanley Fischer has again been named as one of the world's top ten central bank chiefs in "Global Finance" magazine's annual Central Banker Report Card. Fischer was given an "A" along with colleagues Jean-Claude Trichet (European Central Bank), Glenn Stevens (Reserve Bank of Australia), Lee Seongtae (Bank of Korea), Fai-Nan Perng (Taiwan Central Bank) and Durmus Yilmaz (Central Bank of Turkey).

New York-based "Global Finance" grades central bank heads in 30 selected countries on a scale of "A" to "F" for success in areas such as inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability and interest rate management.

"Global Finance" publisher Joseph Giarraputo said, "During one of the toughest years on record, the world's central bankers were tested as never before. Every year, we try to assess the determination of central bankers to stand up to political interference and their efforts at forcing their governments to spend less and to open their economies to foreign investment and financial services."

US Federal Reserve chairman Ben S. Bernanke was rated "C" for the second consecutive year.
