Post office starts selling dollar debit cards

The card can be filled up at post office branches for any amount up to $2,500 or NIS 9,999.

Today the Israel Postal Company launched a pre-paid dollar debit card. Post Office management and Visa Europe representatives in Israel launched the prepaid visa card, whose balance is specified in dollars, and was first reported by "Globes" in May.

The card is intended to replace cash and can be filled - without being linked to a bank's current account - at post office branches for any amount up to $2,500 or NIS 9,999 (the lower of the two - the amount is the result of the instructions for the law prohibiting money laundering). The Visa credit card is recognized and accepted worldwide. The Israel Postal Company, headed by Yoel Naveh, and the Visa pre-paid dollar debit card partners - Visa Europe and Payoneer - are planning to issue a Euro-filled card within a few months.
