Ehud Barak sells Tel Aviv apartment for NIS 26.5m

The Defense Minister bought the apartment in 2003 for NIS 12 million and has come down from an asking price of NIS 40 million.

Sources inform "Globes" that Minister of Defense Ehud Barak has in the past few days sold his apartment on the 31st floor of Tel Aviv Akirov Towers for NIS 26.5 million. Barak is due to vacate the property in six months time.

Barak and his wife Nili decided to sell the luxury apartment back in August 2008. The original asking price for the 450 square meter apartment was NIS 40 million. The apartment is mortgaged for about NIS 12 million, which was about the price that Barak paid for it back in 2003.

The buyer of Barak's apartment is a foreign company. It is also possible that an Israeli has actually bought the apartment and that the buyer prefers to hide behind the anonymity of a foreign corporation. Either way details of the company and the buyers have been passed on by the Minister of Defense to the relevant government authorities in accordance with reporting requirements which bind government ministers.

The Baraks bought a 200 square meter apartment two years ago for NIS 8 million in Tel Aviv's new Assuta Towers on Jabotinsky Street. Other tenants in that new project include Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) outgoing CEO Galia Maor and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) CEO Eli Yones. The Assuta project will only be completed in two years time.
