BBC Broadcast selects SintecMedia system to manage broadcast operations

The system will serve one of the largest network-wide deployments of its kind.

BBC Broadcast, one of the commercial companies of the BBC, has selected SintecMedia’s OnAir to manage the broadcast operations of all BBC’s public TV channels as well as its regional radio stations.

No value was disclosed for the deal, but industry sources estimate that it is worth $20-30 million over three years.

The system will serve 750 users in one of the largest network-wide deployments of an integrated system of its kind. OnAir manages content acquisition, broadcast rights, long-term and detailed schedule planning, airtime sales, promotion planning, media management, and process control.

SintecMedia is a member of the Formula Group and is based in Jerusalem.

BBC Broadcast is part of BBC Ventures Group, the BBC's new commercial media services business comprising: BBC Resources, BBC Technology, BBC Broadcast and BBC Vecta. BBC Ventures Group is wholly owned by the BBC and is charged with the task of maximizing income to deliver back to the BBC for reinvestment in programs and services. BBC Broadcast currently provides services for 37 public service and commercial television channels, five national radio networks, 39 local radio stations and BBCi, which provides services over the web and interactive TV.
