Mortgages up again in March

Homebuyers took NIS 4.5 billion in new mortgages in March, 5% more than February.

Homebuyers took NIS 4.5 billion in new mortgages in March 2014, 5% more than in February, the Bank of Israel reported today. The amount of new mortgages was the highest since December 2013.

Fixed-interest mortgages totaled NIS 1.88 billion, 3.1% more than in February, and variable interest mortgages totaled NIS 2.6 billion, up 6.3%. Variable interest mortgages accounted for 58% of total mortgages in March, up from 57.3% in the preceding month.
