Irrigation co Netafim to fire 150

Most of the layoffs will be in Israel.

Irrigation equipment manufacturer Netafim Ltd. is about to fire 150 employees, most of them in Israel. Some the laid off employees are members of the three kibbutzim that own the controlling core of the company: Magal, Hatzerim, and Yiftah.

Netafim is preparing a cost-cutting plan, which will likely also include the cancellation of some projects, and the reduction of activity in some countries where it currently operates.

Netafim produces drip irrigation systems and methods for boosting crop yields through reduced erosion and better land use. The company deals with a range of crops, including orchards, vineyards, bioenergy, greenhouses, and gardening. The company also deals in solutions for drinking water and treated wastewater, and participates in olive tree research with Israel's Agricultural Research Organization of Israel (ARO) - the Volcani Center and a Jordanian research institute.
