M-Systems to develop flash memory for Microsoft’s Xbox

CEO Dov Moran: This agreement could represent a significant opportunity for M-Systems.

M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers (Nasdaq:FLSH)announced today that it had entered into an agreement with US software giant Microsoft to develop customized memory units for future Xbox products and services. Xbox is Microsoft's video game system.

"Although Microsoft is not obligated to purchase any memory units under the agreement, we believe that this agreement could represent a significant opportunity for M-Systems," said M-Systems president and CEO Dov Moran

In 2003, Microsoft sold some 16 million Xbox units. In November, the company said that it expected sales of 14.5-16 million units in the first six months of 2004. Xbox costs $250.
