Israeli business delegation in Peru

The visit is likely to generate deals totaling $5 million over the next 2-3 years.

With the help of the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, a delegation of 23 Israeli business people is visiting Peru as guests of President Alejandro Toledo. Export Institute chairman David Arzi said that the visit was likely to generate deals totaling $5 million over the next 2-3 years, mostly in agricultural equipment and joint agricultural ventures, including irrigation systems and greenhouses.

The delegation includes representatives of companies like Metal Tech, Merhav, Nirtal Security Consulting and Training, Plastro Irrigation Systems (TASE: PLSTR), Verint Systems (Nasdaq: VRNT), and Polysack Plastic Industries (TASE: PLSK). The delegation will meet with Toledo, the Peruvian ministers of Trade and Agriculture, and Dr. Daniel Schydlowsky, principle of Corporación Financiera de Desarrollo (COFIDE), the Peruvian development bank. Personal meetings with business people have been scheduled in order to create partnerships.

Arzi said that 29 Israeli companies began operating in Peru last year, and that 165 were operating there now, 21% more than in 2003. Industrial exports to Peru, excluding diamonds, grew 40% to $10.8 million in the first half of 2005, compared with the corresponding period last year.
