Half of 3-12 year-old children surf Web

A TNS preliminary survey found that households with children that surf the Internet have higher-than-average income.

48.9% of Jewish children aged 3-12 surf the Internet, according to a preliminary TNS Teleseker Internet Monitor (TIM) survey. The main survey will be conducted in the next few days. The preliminary survey found that approximately half of Israeli children make some use of the Internet.

The current survey in its regular format is being conducted for the eleventh time since 2000. It deals with the surfing habits and other Internet use among the Israeli population aged 13 and up. For the first time, the survey this year will also deal with Internet use among children under 13. Unsurprisingly, Internet use is greater among older children.

The preliminary survey also indicates that households with children that surf the Internet have greater-than-average-income in all regions. Such households are more common in the central region and the large cities. The main survey will also examine how children use the Internet, and life-style variables for all Israeli Internet users.

The most recent TNS TIM survey, in the spring of 2005, reported 3.4 million Internet users in Israel age 13+, approximately half of the population. The proportion of Internet surfers in the 13-17 age bracket was over 90%.
