IAI unit wins $8m helicopter anti-missile system contract

Israel Aircraft Industries will participate in the Defexpo India 2006 exhibition in New Delhi this week.

Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd. (IAI) subsidiary Elta Systems Group has won an $8 million contract from a foreign customer to supply helicopters with a defense system against shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles. Elta says this is the first order from this customer for this type of system.

Elta’s Self Protection System (SPS) will be installed on military Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters. The SPS is the military version of the Flight Guard anti-missile protection system for civil airliners, which was recently licensed by the Israel Civil Aviation Authority.

IAI will participate in the Defexpo India 2006 exhibition in New Delhi this week. IAI will display, among other products, its DTACT tactical command and control system, which monitors the location of troops, target acquisition, and provides a 3D topographical image.
