Meir Sheetrit appointed acting justice minister

He is replacing Haim Ramon, who resigned this week after being indicted.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has appointed Minister of Housing and Construction Meir Sheetrit as acting Minister of Justice. He is replacing Haim Ramon, who resigned this week after being indicted. Olmert and Sheetrit agreed that the position would be temporary, in the hope that Ramon’s trial will be concluded swiftly, and that the result will allow him to return to his post.

This will be the second time that Sheetrit holds the justice portfolio. He served as Minister of Justice during the first Sharon government in 2001-03.
