Hirchson: Zalika didn’t tell me he testified on Olmert

Finance Minister Abraham Hirchson today sent the 2007 budget proposal to the Knesset.

Minister of Finance Abraham Hirchson today sent the 2007 budget proposal to the Knesset for the plenum’s first vote on it. At a press conference to mark the occasion, he revealed that Accountant General Dr. Yaron Zalika did not notify him that he gave evidence to State Comptroller and Ombudsman Micha Lindenstrauss about Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in the Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) privatization affair when Olmert was serving as minister of finance.

Zalika was not present at Hirchson’s press conference. Hirchson said Zalika was on an important mission overseas concerning future issues by the state. He said he hoped that Olmert would be cleared of all suspicion and blame, adding that he was not dealing with matter because it was being handled by the Attorney General.

The 2007 budget proposal sent to the Knesset today totals NIS 295.4 billion.
