Adelson, Nimrodi break off talks on sale of Ma'ariv

Sources say Adelson has no interest in acquiring Ma'ariv. and is satisfied with owning the free newspaper "Israeli."

Talks between Sheldon Adelson and Ofer Nimrodi for the acquisition of a stake in the newspaper "Ma'ariv" have broken off. Sources close to Adleson have made it clear that he does not intend to acquire "Ma'ariv", despite Nimrodi's attempts to interest him several weeks ago.

The sources added that Adleson is currently engaged in building 14 giant hotels in Macau, a government project in Singapore and the addition of 3000 rooms to his luxurious Venetia hotel in Las Vegas, and he has no interest in acquiring "Ma'ariv." "The free newspaper "Israeli" is enough for him," they said.

ILD Insurance Holdings Ltd. (TASE:ILDH) senior executives said that the negotiations had in fact ended but emphasized that statements by "close" associates of Adelson were not representative of the situation and the details of the negotiations. Ofer Nimrodi declined to comment on details of the deal but said that "without going into details of the negotiations, I will only say that I have met a warm Zionist and I wish him success in the future."
