Ministry approves RFID frequencies

The decision allows the use in Israel of RFID readers that use wireless technology to identify products.

The Ministry of Communications has approved radio frequency identification (RFID) frequencies for civilian use in the 915-918 megahertz range. The decision allows the use in Israel of RFID readers that use wireless technology to identify products.

The ministry said, “Opening the market to new technologies will broaden the range of wireless products certified for use by the Israeli public and its benefit.”

RFID is technology is an automatic identification method that remotely retrieves data from RFID tags. Most tags have no power supply, and the electricity current from the incoming radio signal provides the tag with the power to transmit a response containing identification data. Tags range in size from the very large, for shipping containers, to the very small, for individual packages.
