Exports to Turkey double

Exports to Turkey totaled $112 million in July 2007. Exports to Cyprus and South Africa also rose strongly.

The Manufacturers Association of Israel reports that Turkey tops the list of Israeli export growth. Exports to Turkey totaled $112 million in July 2007, up 107% compared with July 2006. However, it should be noted that the Second Lebanon War during the summer of last year caused a 43% drop in Israeli exports to Turkey compared with July 2005. Nevertheless, exports to Turkey were higher in July this year compared with July 2005.

45% of Israeli exports to Turkey were chemicals, which increased by 51% to $48 million. Metals exports to Turkey totaled $18 million, 17% of total exports; machinery and electrical equipment exports totaled $13 million, 12% of total exports, but were 33% less than in July 2006. Israeli exports to Turkey totaled $636 million in January-July, up 33% compared with the corresponding period of last year.

After Turkey, the greatest increase in exports in July, compared with July last were Cyprus - up 93% to $68 million; South Africa - up 88% to $54 million; Argentina - up 76% to $20 million; and Greece - up 74% to $18 million. Exports to Cyprus were 14% in January-July compared with the corresponding period.
