Jerusalem light rail delayed but trains arrive

The first rolling stock from Alstom was unloaded at Ashdod Port yesterday.

Construction of the Jerusalem light railway will probably be delayed by at least a year, but the first rolling stock has already arrived, and was unloaded at the Ashdod Port yesterday. Grimaldi Group, represented in Israel by Allalouf & Co. Shipping Ltd., shipped the rolling stock.

France’s Alstom SA (LSE: ALS; Euronext:ALO) built the rolling stock. Alstom owns 20% of City Pass, the consortium building the Jerusalem light rail. Each carriage has double the capacity of a bus. They are 12-16 meters long and weigh 24-33 tons.

Over the coming weeks, 46 more deliveries of 92 pieces of rolling stock are due to arrive for the Jerusalem light rail.

The Jerusalem light rail project has been delayed by a dispute between City Pass and the municipality over building permits.
